my find

Sorry about my late post. I’ve been a bit busy. And I just got so much stuff I didn’t have time to take pictures and write a description of it all! But in all seriousness it was raining on Saturday morning. I went to one estate sale first off. Found nothing…the daughter was proud to tell us she was an antique dealer from New Mexico and had kept anything of value to sell in her store. So I got out of there quick and early then drove around for a bit and got something to eat. Sometime in there it stopped raining and I actually found to garage sales where I spent a whole $1. I was hopeful that more sales might come out (it was around 9am now). So I drove around a bit more but then it started to rain again about 9:45. So I called it a day.

Sunday I sold at a mini/tiny antique flea. They only had about 7 vendors and the booths are quite small also. Although on the plus side its cheap to sell…and they don’t let us start before 8am! It was so nice not having to get up at 3:30 to sell! I took a few pictures of my booth so go over to my blog if you want to check it out. I did pretty good selling…I mean its hard to have a huge day when you only have a few tables. But I was still able to clear 395 after lunch and space rental.

And here is my one picture and my one find. A Penn 200 fishing reel for $1. Not a very good reel…I’ll make a few dollars on it. Maybe sell it for 10 or 15…

Next week looks better already…no rain and 80 according to weather.com! It was pretty cold here last night…it got down to 44!

they had some nice glass at this sale but it was all a bit out of my price range. If I could sell it for 18 she wanted 10 and wouldn't deal. Not quite good enough prices to buy...but enough you consider.

Well, I’ll tell you right off that it wasn’t anywhere near as good as last week. Although it wasn’t bad either. I would call today a bit below average for me. I was out of the house a bit late today…just daybreak as opposed to an hour before it. No good sounding estate sales in the paper (maybe it was the holiday?). So I just went around to garage sales all morning. Its just one of those days where you seem to be moving in slow motion…even after 4 shots of espresso and 2 cups of coffee…

I was able to find a lot of garage sales. But most of them were all junk. I think its on account of the heat. These 85 degree temps have every junk seller out in their yard with 2 tarps of baby clothes, a stroller, and a car seat. So at about 75% of the sales I didn’t even bother to get out of the car. I called it a day around 11:45 today and came home to do my best impersonation of a veggie and watch the Battlestar Galactica auction on the net (I so needed that cylon raider but alas I didn’t have an extra 40k laying around).

I got a some pictures of the sales I hit today so check those out. I spread my finds into 3 pictures to make it look like I have more then I really do…

Picture #1

Fenton hobnail single candle holder $1 Another day another piece of Fenton…
Fenton silvercrest epergne horn $1 From the sale as the candleholder. I guess my epergne run isn’t over yet…although now I’m only finding spare parts…
Imperial carnival glass bowl 50cents For the life of me I can’t remember the pattern. I see it from time to time and have sold a few pieces of it. But I’m drawing a blank…its cane or something like that.
Fenton blue daisy and button shoe 50cents It matches all the blue from last week…

Picture #2

Dixson Tachometer $2 It looked nice…I’m unsure of the application (truck?) But it looked nice and I figured it might just sell!
Harris butt set $5 Nice one…looks brand new with box. This will be a good seller for me on ebay. An easy fast 40-50 profit! The kind of item I like!
2 boxes of Propp christmas lights $3 for the pair. Interesting set. I looked them up for a bit on ebay they seem to date from around the late 20’s. Very cool. And an okay seller also!

picture #3

a whole bunch of model cars $15 for them all. A few years ago I sold a few I won in a car show raffle on ebay for around 20ea. They were the ertl ones like the one in the box. So I asked about the one in the box and she said take them all for 20…I countered with 15 and it was a deal. Looks like the one in the box will get me my 15 back and maybe the rest will get 3-5ea at the flea. At least that’s my hope. At the worst I won’t lose money.
El camino emblem 50cents…this should have been in the other picture but I forgot to get it out of the car box. I’m not sure of the year its from…my guess puts it around 66-68?

A wonderful day

The holidays are over so things are back to normal winter mode for the most part. Although I’m not really sure if you can call it winter outside. It was 80 and sunny out yesterday and will be again today…tomorrow….Has spring sprung already?!

I was up and out early (although doesn’t that really go without saying?). Was at my first estate sale a bit before 6am (in the dark) it opened before 7am. I was the first in the door…the line was only about 8 people. I went in and made a fast left for the glass in the den…it could have been the living room. I don’t remember…I had tunnel vision when I saw all the blue. Turns out his Mom collected blue! So I was able to score some pretty solid deals on some nice blue Fenton. I paid and was out of there by 6:45 and on to the next sale. It was scheduled for 8am but it had just opened when I got there about 10 after 7. The garage door was open and I didn’t see anyone in there. It had a lot boxes of books and junk…I skipped that and went into the house. Not to much in there except some very very dirty junky glass. On a tall shelf above the sink in the kitchen I found a carnival glass vase…a very very dirty one. I missed it on my first walk through (me along with everyone else probably)…I was looking down at the stuff on the counter not at the stuff on display above the sink. So I went back out to the garage and rummaged through the book boxes for a bit. Found one interesting submarine one. I paid $2 and was out of there. Went straight for the wet wipes. That place was kinda filfthy….very actually…after washing the one carnival glass vase the sink water looked like coffee…

Then it was around to garage sales for the rest of the morning. I was able to see about 25-30 garage sales. So that was nice and I had a pretty good pick going the whole morning. I stayed out until almost 1pm. I was doing okay and the weather was nice. I did have some bad luck as in my truck was acting up…but hey what can you expect from a 15 year old car that I beat on pretty hard…its the reason I didn’t post till today.

I didn’t get any pics of the sales I went to. But I did take some more close-ups of my glass finds so be sure and check those out…a few pieces are worth it!
And I know I’m a bit more longwinded today in my post…but I’m 4 cups of coffee and 2 energy drinks into my day. And I’m doing whatever I can think of to put off listing!!

Picture #1

The fleet type submarine $1 Its from 1946…its marked restricted…looks really cool. I have a good feeling on this one.
our country’s achievements $2 its from 1880 something I can’t remember. Looked like it would make a good flea item
then an old book on what girls can do 50cents again figured it for the flea
iris pitcher $1 flea junk. Iris and herring bone seems to sell well. And its a pattern I’ve never had any respect for!
Murano glass birds $2 for the pair…still have there stickers on the bottom…flea junk
Cool old flashlight $1 I looked it up…it doesn’t sell like I thought it would. Its from the late 30’s. I really thought I had a winner when I found it too…one like it sold for $6…
Fenton silvercrest vase $5 garage sale find. More then I like to pay…but still it should sell for 35-45 pretty easily at the flea…
Fenton blue opalescent bowl I don’t remember the price. I paid 45 for the blue glass I got at the estate sale
Fenton carnival glass vase $1 Nice one…I think its an ebay item!
Blue opalescent vase Part of the estate set…I don’t think its Fenton…my guess is Jefferson or someone like that.
Blue milk glass butter estate set…no idea of the maker. I don’t see much old blue milk glass…and it could be the first blue butter I’ve ever had…
Fenton blue epergne part of the estate lot nice diamond lace piece. I’m going to have a hard time selling this one…
hand painted milk glass vase $1 Junk? Probably…flea it…
Imperial Katy blue style vase 50cents Nice piece…will be a good seller…very popular style.
Hull art pottery vase 50cents Nice piece…an easy flea market $25
Ruby imperial compote $2 Nice one…I wish this was pre glass crash…ruby was really hot. Now its a 15-20 item…

picture #2

2 old dogs I have to shamefully admit I paid 100 for them at a garage sale. I like them and I wanted them for me…And I know I can get my money plus a bit more out of them if need be…I tried to offer 75 but they wouldn’t deal…and I was happy and having a good day so I got em…

picture #3

Singer featherweight machine $25 I did really good with the last one I sold and this one looked like it was in such good shape I didn’t bat an eyelash at paying that for it.
2 Bakelite radios $30 He had 20 ea on them I offered 30 for the pair and it was a deal. The RCA works good. The other has exposed wires so I will put a new cord on it and see if it works. Not a bad deal!
Lane cat TV lamp $5 nice flea market item.

So all in all I had a very good day out at the sales. I spent more money then I normally do. But I just kept finding stuff!

Start the year off fine

Although I’ve been out and about the last few weeks at sales my last post was about 3 weeks ago. Although there hasn’t been a whole lot to report. The week before Christmas I couldn’t find any sales to save my life. I think I found maybe 4 and I know the only thing I got was an espresso maker for $5. I’d take a picture but I’ve been lazy and I haven’t cleaned it from this morning.

The weekend after Christmas I found a whopping one sale. Although they had good prices and I was able to make 2 buys…a nut cracker and one ounce of silver both for $2. I took a picture of them and planned to post it but I never got around to it until now so its being lumped in with today’s finds. Although I did get the nutcracker listed and so far it seems to be doing quite well!

Today I was up and out of the house a bit late…I guess it was 6:30 or so. I didn’t have any sales mapped as the paper had nothing that sounded good. But I was able to scratch together a pretty darn good day…when you consider I only went to 7 sales total…well there was 8 but one was so bad I didn’t count it. And I had nothing mapped…I mean its not my best day by any means. But I came up with some nice solid finds…I’ve done much worse somedays when I hit 50 sales!

I only got one picture of the sales when I was up at them. I was just so excited to find a sale that I forgot about you all and just ran up there! Here is the rundown on my finds!

Picture #1

Coin and nutcracker from 12.27.08

Picture #2

California tile top table $5 Nice table at a very good price. Happy to grab this one…and please excuse the dirty rug on the front porch…its time to get a new one…

Picture #3

Nice handpainted w/ gold overlay water set $3 Good flea market set…
2 metlox handled vases $1 I looked these up in the book…it has them for 35ea…so I should be able to maybe get 20 for the pair…kinda sad huh?
Plomb wrench 25 cents flea it probably
vintage felt Christmas bell flea it

Picture #4

Vintageish Japan clown cookie jar $1 I thought it might do good at the flea…maybe…what do I know…
Fenton hobnail candleholder $1 its fenton…and me likes fenton…
fiesta footed salad bowl $2 Nice piece…it has the old mark…so it should be a good quick sale…
sascha brastoff luncheon set $5 Its a good maker…and a nice set…if you like that sort of thing…

Hopefully things will return to normalcy next week and I can really get on track. But still it was a very good way to kick things off in 09!
