Not a whole lot in the paper for today. No estate sales. But I was still up and out of the house right at day break. I hit an early 6am sale (for nothing) then it was around to more garage sales for the rest of the day. I picked up one item here and one item there until I called it a day right around 11 because I had a fenton singing to get to!

That was fun I got some fenton signed and some fried chicken (I was at Knotts berry farm after all). I have some pictures of the fenton event on my blog! Then I hit a few more garage sales on my way home. All in all it was a nice day. And I got more pictures of the sales then I normally do. But it was severely lacking finds wise (although I did get a few solid 40-50 items). I mean after gas I’ll make some money but nothing like what I want! I didn’t get a single piece of glass. You know how rare that is for me?? It might be a first. That should give you an idea of how slow it was out there for me…

The weather was nice…upper 50’s when I got up. With a high right about 78…no clouds and sun! Very nice!

Here is the rundown…

Picture #1

Pile of vacuum tubes $3 I keep getting them. One of these days I’ll get up the energy to sell them…
Whitney punch set $5 Nice set! I know its an easy 40 or so on line. But I think I will keep it!
Schrade knife $1 Nice hunting knife. Will make for a solid sale
67 olds book $1 It does sell on line. But I’ll probably keep it
Becker Europa radio $1 Nice vintage Mercedes car radio am/fm. Probably late 60’s. Its in good shape so it will be a good solid ebay seller ($70 range).

pic #2

Vintage color wheel in box $2 Another solid ebay sale…they swear they had the tree in the attic…so I left my number but I doubt anyone will call…
GE ice lights $1 Nice string these seem to sell for some reason…
vintage lot of masks $1 I thought they might sell at the flea?
vintage tree topper in box $1 flea junk

Picture #3

MGB Grill $5 Not sure how this one will do…it looks to be in good shape. So I figured I’d give it a try and see what happens. I know I won’t lose money. But I’m not sure how much I’ll make either…
old ringneck $1 They also had a duck at the sale but it was molting pretty bad. These always seem to sell at the flea. Not sure why anyone wants them. But if you have the cash I don’t ask…
Vintage oremaster Geiger counter $2 I thought it might hold some value to someone at the flea. Even for decoration…???

So all in all it was pretty slow for me. And here is my tip of the day. Make sure you sign up for the Fenton newsletter. Just in case they come to your area and sign. Its a fun time…its like show and tell for glass!!

Let this be my lesson of the day for everyone…auctions don’t change. And don’t go gamble away most of your morning hoping they have. I was up and out early today…went to an estate sale first thing. They were open about 6:30. I was able to pick up a few items there. Then it was around to a few garage sales for a few more items. But I called it quits around 7:15 and ran out to an auction. I’m not sure why…about 3 years ago I “discovered” the auction. I went to it on and off if I had nothing else to do but never found much…its always newer junk. So I quit going for about 4 months. The auction company then stopped having auctions…for about a year. And today they were back. The auction starts at 8:30 and was about 45m/an hour from me. I’m not sure what possessed me to go. Or why I did…but I took the drive…get out there (its the middle of no where). Go in to preview…and nothing…400 lots and 0 items I wanted to bid on. Not even an if that sells cheap I’ll bid…nothing. So the lesson…don’t waste $20 in gas and 2 hours of your precious Saturday morning hoping an auction has gotten better.

So I returned and hit a few garage sales late in the morning then called it a day.

And sorry for the late post…I’ve been playing wii all day. And then the king game was on…I guess you all know where you rank now huh? ;)

Here is what I did scare up early and late at the sales…

picture #1

Telephone tester $5 nice little piece of test equipment at a good price…
A crescent fence tool 25cents good deal…not a common tool…
a nice new ertco thermometer $1 Good tool!
3 enamel pots $3 flea market junk…
western electric princess phone $1 Nice old phone…I wish it was the pink one! You know…to match my room!

pic 2

deco wall sconce $1 nice older piece
6 dogwood lunch plates $5 I seem to find a set of dogwood lunch plates about every year…not that its a bad thing…they always sell quick…
analee doll $1 flea junk
pottery coffee pot $5 nice older one…I forget the maker…no its not bauer…
Medela breast pump $10 I did good with the last one…so why not??

Pic 3

Wii 150…I don’t think he really wanted to sell it…because he wouldn’t deal. But I’ve been looking at them…and I wanted one so I got it. The games were 15ea. Except the hockey…I got that at best buy on the way home.

No Junk!

img_0563

I love this new time. Its great…I can get up at 5am…leave at 5:30…be at an estate sale right when it gets light. Be the first person in…pick up all the good Fenton and sterling then leave. And still be early to the garage sales when they start to open around 6:30ish! Then after a few hours of garage sales I stop and head to the auction! Bid and buy a few items then go home…unpack rest for a bit. It was a well planned out day today for me (topped off with a Gary Puckett and Davy Jones concert tonight).

And so far its worked pretty good. The estate sale was great! The garage sales cooperated. The auction wasn’t as great to start…but it ended well. I saw a few items I liked and thought would be in my price range. How wrong I was…people were bidding sky high today…I mean above book price high on some glass. It was insane…and just about when I had lost all hope (300 lots in and I had nothing)…the one item I thought that would sell for a bundle came under the hammer. A nice piece of Roseville. Only the bidding died at $80…going once…going twice…no way was I going to let it sell for that. So I tossed 90 on it. And I now own it. If your wondering why I paid 90 for a piece of Roseville…scroll down…its well worth it…I expected it to sell for around 400 today personally. So right there the auction portion of my day went from bad to good! We’ll see how the rest pans out later…

The weather has been nice…cool in the morning (mid 50’s) and nice out now (80). Not a cloud in the sky…all around a very nice day. I got a few pictures of the sales…I didn’t get any of the auction. By the time I thought of it the preview was over. Before that my iphone was busy looking up items…

Here is the rundown of my items…I didn’t get a lot. But as you’ll see it was quality over quantity!

Picture #1

Sterling silver tray $2 Nice tray. I guess its about 12 ounces!
Sterling silver creamer and sugar $3 Same sale not sure why they were more then the tray…but still…its sterling
sterling silver pie servers 50cents each same early estate sale
Sterling silver candleholders $1 they were at a random garage sale…
starling and antler carving set $5 from the early estate sale…i got a lot there!
truck sign $2 its the one to list what chemicals your hauling. I think it will be good for the wall…it has a lot of different symbols!
3 starrett micrometers $5 for the set nice little hand full…good deal!

picture #2

Hull Cornucopia $1 flea market junk
milk glass cake $2 Didn’t I just get one of these a few months ago??? I’m sure I did…
blue basket $1 I think its princess house or some junk. But it should sell at the flea…it looks nice.
2 flo blue dinner plates $2 flea junk
Fenton cranberry coin dot vases $3 ea They might have taken 5 for the pair. But I didn’t offer…$3ea was fair enough IMO!

Picture #3

Roseville 708-9 blue pinecone ewer $90 What a piece of roseville. I haven’t had one this nice…well…ever. the condition is good…the color is good…its clearly marked. And before you ask…yes its a pitcher…but when its worth this much (I hope) its becomes an ewer not a pitcher :)
Fenton Daisy and fern Pitcher $5 Same sale as the coin dot. I didn’t make the seller an offer…we added everything up and I paid. When you find that nice of stuff and get quoted that cheap of a price. Be kind…don’t beat the seller up over $2 when your going to make 200…Anyway what a nice piece of Fenton or Wright glass…fenton made it but Wright sold it…

Sloooooowwwwww

wanna play a game?

they looked real...but they had taiwan stickers on the bottom???

nothing up at this one...

Odd odd day…it never seems to get light anymore…I complain about this every week. But who’s stupid idea was to push back the time change?? I mean is there really something that wrong with PST now days…it seems were on daylight time for 8 months a year? Anyway enough of that rant.

There was one ad in the paper for an estate sounding sale so I got there and waited for the sun to come up. And with the cloud cover that didn’t happen until after 7…I was able to pick up a few things there and I hunted around to garage sales for the rest of the morning…well the morning ended about 9:30. We had a little 5min sprinkle of rain come through and everyone ran for shelter. Most Californians are weird people…we can deal with the ground shaking. But let a few drops of water fall from the sky and they squeal like a 5 year old girl and run indoors. Only to grab a parka, light a fire, and drink a warm cup of coffee…totally ignoring the fact that its 80 outside. So my morning ended early. Although I wasn’t seeing to many sales anyway. I think the numbers were deflated due to Halloween (speaking of…I had a whole 6 trick or treaters this year…up from 4 last year!).

I didn’t get but a handful of sale pictures today. I only hit about 15 sales…they were kinda few and far between. And most of them were not worthy of a picture. If it wasn’t for the one sale with the jewelry my morning would have almost been a bust.

Picture #1

sterling candelabra $2 I wish they had its mate…still its a nice find. I got it at the first estate sale.
Handful of jewelry $5 The 3 necklaces are sterling as are the ear rings. And I thought that the 4th necklace was sterling when I found it. Just with a lot of the dark tarnish silver gets. When I got home and looked closer I knew it wasn’t silver. Turns out it was gold that looks like someone wore for 20+ years and never took off or cleaned. It was…just covered in grime. But it cleaned up good…and its 14k Italy. So that was a nice surprise.

picture #2

Green horseshoe plate $1 These are pretty common. I seems to find 1 or 2 a year…
Green swirl plate $1 More common…I find about 3 or 4 of these a year…
candlewick 4 part relish 50cents good flea market item!
Yankee trader game from 1941 $1 interesting…like a merchant marine game or something…
Art glass bowl $1 It signed by…someone…latimer or something like that. I’m not sure who that is…but its signed art glass. And let this be oldkeets tip of the week (I should start a section like that!) If you see art glass turn it over…if it has an etched signature on the bottom grab it! Etched signatures normally equal good. Although I say this before I look up the current piece I got today…Now that I opened my mouth it won’t sell!!

picture #4

Whole pile of hot rod, hotrodding ect magazines $10 These seem to sell for me at about 1-3 dollars each at the flea (depending on condition and brand and age). So I should make a pretty good return on my investment. Plus I have a whole lot of fun looking through them before I sell them! My guess puts the number at about 100 magazines…

So if you ever wonder what I do for fun on a Saturday night…i will be reading back issues of hot rod!
