Does it ever get light anymore?? I was up and out of the house early today for a 7am estate sale. It looked/sounded really good so I got there extra early! I wanted to make sure I was first in line. I was…then waited there hoping they would open early. But it doesn’t ever seem to get light! It was a few minutes until 7am when the sun finally came up and they opened right at 7am. They probably would have been open at 6…but it was dark (stupid time change! I want PST back!). Thankfully there wasn’t to many people there. I guess the other salers also follow the sun…?? I went in the front door as opposed to the garage they opened both at the same time. And it was a wise move as I scored a bunch of Fenton cranberry opalescent. But oddly they didn’t have much else. That’s okay…I’m happy with the Fenton. I raced out of there (lucky I didn’t get a speeding ticket) and on to the next sale (scheduled for 8am).

I was at the next sale by 7:30 and they opened the front door just as I walked up. I was about the 4th person in and everyone broke off in directions…I went toward the dining room for nothing but saw they had a screened in patio where all the glass seemed to be! I walked out and score! Seems they had good taste in milk glass! And even a few pieces of depression glass for good measure. Everything seemed to be in the back yard except the furniture. So luck was with me at those 2 sales!

From there I went around to garage sales. I didn’t pick up a whole lot at those. But I still managed to find a few goodies. I ended up calling it a day right about noon. The weather was nice…cool in the morning and its 89 out right now. I saw a good number of sales today. More then I see on a lot of summer days! I think the “good” yardsale season is upon us! Or at least I hope it is!!

Picture #1

a bent wood rocker $10 It looked cool and was cheap enough! It should be worth more then that right?
Vintage(ish?) snow shoes $5 for the pair. Make for good decorator items

picture #2

split bamboo fly rod $2 I’ll add it to my not a collection…meaning I can’t bring myself to sell any of them. But I maintain I don’t collect the rods!
Mayfair cookie jar $3 Not bad…its in good shape!
candlewick butter and plate $3 I think its a butter its to small for anything else…
Fenton basket $1 Flea market
Northwood open opal mint compote $2 Nice good flea item
Pink Adam cake plate $3 nice depression glass…

Picture #3

Fenton hobnail basket $5 Nice basket. Its the large size and they seem to do well at the flea.
Fenton hobnail student lamp $10 Shown with the wrong shade/globe. I have the correct shade. But I put the wrong one on in this picture. The shade should be the lower thicker one. But its a nice lamp at a good price!
Fenton cranberry opalescent cruet, small vase, and large vase $10 Nice little collection of Fenton items. That cranberry sells good!
Fenton Milk Glass Epergne $5 Its the larger size one. The plain ones don’t sell super good but still it is what it is…

Fenton Cranberry opalescent 3 light pole lamp $15 All the cranberry was at the first sale. I found the cruet and the 2 vases in the kitchen…went into the bedroom and found the student lamp. So I stuffed the small vase and the cruet into my pockets and grad the lamp. Went back out and was told they have the large lamp just like that in the other room. So I went back and found it. They had it all boxed up. That was one heck of a sale! The pole lamp is shown with the correct globes…its tough when you find 4 pieces that look the same to keep them all straight :)

Well, that was my day. I didn’t get a massive amount of stuff. But I did get a lot of nice quality items!

And hunting out of the blue corner…in the white truck…hailing from Southern California OLDKEET

glass table...close. But not quite there. It had potential...

the tool sale. Second pass. The planes were secure in my truck already...

boo!

another glass table that was close. But not quite there...

it looked good from the street...but not up close...

that looks like a nice lamp...wonder how much it is. I'll go look!

I still needs batteries on my clock. So I’m not sure of the temps. But it was very nice this morning. Cool out in the morning and good short pants weather! It warned up in the afternoon and for the last hour or so I had the A/C on. Very nice yardsale weather. I wasn’t out as early today…it doesn’t get light until almost 6:45. So most of the sales don’t open until 7ish. I like it when its light at 5:30! The sales are open at 6! No good looking estate sales in the paper for today. It was odd…But I did go first off to a neighborhood sale and picked up a few nice items. Then I left that area and ran into a nice sale with a bunch of old tools and really loaded up. So that made my day right there. After that it was around to garage sales for the rest of the morning.

I did take a few more better pictures of the sales I went to this week. The last few weeks have been really lacking in sale pictures. All in all I put together a nice little morning for myself. Now all I need to do is start researching some of these tools and figure out what their worth!

Picture #1

A bunch of Nixon stuff $3 I guess someone was a big time nixon fan. Not a bad collection of stickers plus the rally sign for cheap. I probably won’t make much but its a good flea market collection.

Picture #2

very cool fight bell $5 It works! I might keep it and make it a doorbell. Before you ask no mine is not broken. But I just find the bell really cool!
vintage tachograph $5 It looked interesting and old. Turn out its not a very good seller. I’ll still make something for it at the flea. But I had higher hopes when I found it…
3 Books $1ea The dickens one is from 1900…its a collection of prints. The car manual is for me. And the children’s one is from 1888. I figured it might hold some flea interest.
Sterling silver St Jude 25cents. You know me and sterling silver…

Picture #3

pyrex primary nesting set $5 another day another dollar…
McCoy pot 50cents flea market stuff
Diesel Power & Diesel Transportation mage $1 I think there are 5 of them. Probably not a good seller but they are from 1943 and its worth the buck to me. I have fun looking at all the war ads.
Fiberglass shade lamp $2 Check my blog to see a picture of the lamp in the wild before I hunted it down! (aka walked up and got it!)
Fenton hobnail sugar 25cents. I found this late in the day…I wasn’t going to get it but I didn’t have any fenton for my pictures so I got it. Then at the very next sale I found a
Fenton Underplate 50cents So I’m glad I got the sugar…now I need to find the creamer…

Picture #4

Tool bonanza! $22 I was excited to see all the planes at a sale. Then I crossed my fingers and asked the price…expecting to hear $20ea or something…But when I asked he said “if you take them all you can have them for $20″ If I take them all?!? For 20 there is no “if” I was more then happy to take them off his hands. Then I hunted around and found the monkey wrench and he wanted $2 for that. He also had a bunch of other hardware and junk but nothing that struck my fancy.

So all in all not a bad day. I just seem to keep finding the deals and being in the right place at the right time! I hope everyone else out there was in the right place also!

weller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Saturday another yardsale adventure with Keet. Up and out early again. I hit an estate sale first thing for a few odds and ends. And this it was around to garage sales. And right about 8am I made the find of the month (more like 3 months) and I was a happy Darrin for the rest of the morning. I called it quits today around 11:30…I’ve just been a bit under the weather the last few days…

The weather was nice. The batteries have died on my indoor outdoor temp clock setup so I don’t know what it was exactly. But it was cool this morning. I left thinking I should have worn long sleeves! Although the temps will be back into the 90’s next week…still the weather is finally starting to change! I like the cooler temps…I tend to do better.

I saw a good number of sales out today so that was nice. Its always a good day when you have to get out of the car at 40-50% of the sales you see!

Here is the breakdown

Picture #1

Metlox Poppytrail dishes $5 for the set. I know it violates my rule on dish sets. But for 5 I couldn’t stop myself! I really need to learn some impulse control!
2 Josef originals figurines $1 These tend to sell really good for me at the flea. I wonder if its all to one person or if the collectors market for them is really that good on em?

picture #2

LE smith moon and stars candy $1 flea market junk
dep era candy $1 more flea junk
2 bauer bowls $2 The one with the tab handles is odd. I’m sure I’ve ever seen one before…

Crackle glass vase $1 flea…
Fostoria Baroque bowl $2 I think they call it flame pattern…
fire king wheat bowl 25cents Not sure how this got in there…

picture #3

3 felt stockings 50cents each flea market
old amp/volt meter $3 Odd weird old thing…
Lineman’s phone $5 Always a good seller…
sterling silver pie/cake 50cents I like sterling :)
Vintage box full of hankies and stuff $1 Its from the early estate sale. It was cheap and I figured I’d try something new

Picture #4

The one I’ve been waiting for A Weller jardiniere in the forest pattern $1 It was at a run of the mill yard sale. in the stack of pots on the lawn. There was it and I thought no way…sure enough when I got up close it was! I had to literally empty the dirt out of it…the poor thing had been used! But it cleaned up nice and its in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. This is going to make me some money!

That’s it for today. But with that Weller one can hardly complain! Tune in next week for another yardsale adventure with keet!

Better late then never?

Very busy weekend for me. I had promised my brother angels playoff tickets for his birthday so we were at the game Friday. It was a fun good game (not being a baseball fan the angels loss didn’t really bother me). But wow those games last FOREVER…4 hours to play 9 innings…no wonder I’m a hockey fan. Another 45 minutes to even get out of the stadium parking lot…and it was a bit after 1 before I was in bed. Up at 5 and lots of caffeine later I was out of the house by 5:30 heading for an estate sale. That really had nothing at it. I did buy one interesting item for $5…very cool…I think. I’m not sure what to do with it…but its cool (see last picture).

After that it was around to garage sales for the rest of the morning. It was a picky pick day. Nothing to really get excited about. Its the end of summer transition. But things should start getting good again right about November!

I would have posted my finds Saturday but I started packing for the antique show Sunday and never got around to it. I had a good antique show…and took some good pictures. But for some reason the memory stick on my camera is blank?! I should have done it with my iPhone…but I thought this time I would get good pictures of the flea for everyone…the best laid plans…I did do over 1k at the flea so I’m happy with my weekend sales all around! I had dinner plans Sunday night…so I put posting off till Monday…now you know where you all rank ;)

Here are my finds

Picture #4

Vintage milk glass Vase by imperial $1 flea market junk…but also good size reference…its 10″ tall…
WWII 5″/38 shell $5 Don’t worry its been defused and the powder was removed. But still a nice piece of history…marked on the bottom with USN marks. I’m not sure how good it sells. But it looks really cool to me!! Asked the seller and he said his dad brought it back from Guam…

Well, that’s it for me…sorry it wasn’t really worth the wait huh??

is this what America has come to?

my political yard sign!

I got back from the market today and was walking up to my front door…only to discover someone had stole my political yard sign. I mean really…is this what America has come to…? Petty theft to show support for ones candidate? We used to make phone calls or knock on doors…now we steal yard signs! It doesn’t matter who you vote for!

This is just wrong on so many levels!

All it does it make me want to go buy 3 or 4 and staple them to my garage! And I’ve already placed my order…

See my sun dial and the metal poles? Its all that’s left of my sign!
