Sorry I’m Late!

Well, I had a sort day yardsaling today. I was up and out of the house early and to my first estate sale by 6am. They were just open when I got there and setting up. Its They had really good prices. So good in fact I had to break one of my personal rules and buy a set of dishes that might sell. I just have a hard timing selling sets anymore. And they are to big and heavy to haul around. But it was only $10…and I’ll be telling that to myself at the next few flea markets when it doesn’t sell and I’m hailing it around!! But that had a partial set of depression glass…and that I know will sell!!

After that I stated to hit some garage sales and all was well for a while. I was picking up a few things until my truck decided to die. It was acting like it was out of gas…or very low…sputtering…fule delivery problem. So I limped home around 9:20 today…I was forced to quit about right before 9am. So that was less then fun this morning. At least it didn’t happen at 6am..and I was able to make it home…as long as I didn’t take my foot off the gas peddle! What are you going to do…the poor truck is now 14 years old with high miles…you have to expect this.

So I was working on that most of the day…well…a good portion of that was spent buying parts. Its a common engine and truck…so you think I wouldn’t have to zig zag across half the state to find it parts. But maybe that’s the problem…its to common and they run out?

So anyway that’s why you get a late post and the pictures are all weird. I was washing the glass as I took the pictures. Enjoy the pictures!

Picture #1

Mics Pieces of Cherry Blossom Depression Glass $5 Its a nice set…happy to see it…even a covered sugar in there. One of the sherbets has a chip. But the rest are very good! Easy money!
Imperial slag glass bowl $1 I’m not so sure about this…its nice…but It might be slow to sell.
Fenton Amber Vase 25cents Its Fenton is about the only nice thing I have to say about it!

Picture #2

Fostoria American ice lip pitcher and cups $5 Not a bad little set. Good 3 part mold old Fostoria. The pitcher is an easy 25+
US glass cake plate $2 This must be a common pattern/piece. Its about the 5th one I’ve found in the last 4 or so years. But they sell. So that’s good!
Hazel atlas milk pitcher $1 flea market item…

Picture $3

My set of dishes $10 I must have spent 5 minutes just looking at them tying to talk myself out of buying them. Its all Monterey pottery…good 50’s look. But I doubt they will sell very quickly. The condition is good. It has 8 cups I forgot to put the other 2 in the pic. Only one bowl has a chip…and it has the service pieces…so maybe? Please?? I don’t want to drag it all over the map!

Picture #4 (with stow away glass)

I didn’t know any glass was in the box so this picture is after I cleaned all the glass…

Nice old photo album $2 It has some nice old ones of fishing from 1919. Its only half full…but then again it was only $2 also :)
2 elf’s $1 for the pair
Vintage tablecloth $1
Bauer bowl 50cents Nice bauer bowl…
Souvenir Mug 25cents These always sell good. Marked 1906…true antique!
60’s Ladies boots $2 I thought I would try to hand with vintage ladies shoes! Plus they got a good 60’s look to them!

The weather started getting rough…

The best laid plans. Every year over Memorial Day they have yardsale mania in our local mountains. Normally over friday and saturday I can see over 300 sales. I normally fill my truck, breath some clean air, and have a mini vacation. Normally I go up Thursday. Sale Friday and Saturday then come home. Its some extra gas when compared to my normal Saturdays. But I know someone on the mountain and I get a free place to stay. So this year I had a bright idea and made a good sounding plan. Go up Wednesday…fish for trout on Thursday and go to yardsales fri-sun. It was so nice last year I figured why not do a bit of fishing and relax before I yardsale from sun up to sundown (well not sundown…about 5pm).

But the weather had other ideas. And weather.com could not have been more wrong this weekend. They were so far off on the weather I’m not sure if I should laugh cry or send them an angry letter asking if anyone at that place really has a degree. The said Thursday it would be cold, rainy, and foggy…and they were close enough. I did a bit of fishing…got a few fish and dreamed of the yardsales to come…

The “forecast” for Friday was cloudy with a 30-40% chance of rain and becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon (high of 48). The reality was far worse…it snowed…then it rained…then it snowed a bit more…all day long. I stayed indoors and played cards. The temps were right around freezing…it sucked…I went and saw Indy…it was marginally better then the weather…

But not to worry. Saturday forecast…partly cloudy in the morning and 38…30% chance of rain with some fog after 3pm. So it will be a nice day right??? They can’t be wrong again??? Yep they can…see Fridays weather for an accurate account of how the day went. Although I went around to find sales…I needed a fix!  And yardsales were well…few and far between. I found one in my hour of looking. Although I did find a piece of Fenton at it! The weather settled a bit around 2pm so I drove higher and found much better weather (Higher altitude no snow and better weather odd…). And I hit a few more sales late…didn’t find much other then some old rations. Hi-light…I found a good coffee house…good espresso! But I got a weird look when I asked for 4 shots mixed with house blend..

Sunday…well third day was the charm. The weather was finally how they said it would be Friday and Saturday. Partly cloudy when I got up. I started to hit some sales…with the sun on my face. For an hour or so… Then the fog rolled back in. But it didn’t snow or rain.  Just cold and foggy.  So some brave souls had yardsales. I ended up seeing about 30 sales total and got lucky in that I was able to scratch together an ok day. Although a poor weekend all things considered.

Here are a few pictures. I know not much snow to most of you out there…but I’m a socal city boy! And who’s going to have a yardsale in that. And ice on my window…I can’t handle that??? Or my brothers window I had his SUV he had my truck…he went to the beach…good choice… But on a side note…I did rebel and wore short pants all weekend!

I didn’t get any sale pictures…I lost hope and had the camera packed come sunday…I didn’t unpack it…I should have taken a few with my phone…but didn’t. Sorry…but have a look at the snow. And a sign reading estate sale cancled…see you in late june.  Booo

Here is a list of my finds

Picture #1

4 beer mugs $4 I seem to do well with these at the flea. It won’t make you rich but the German ones go away pretty quick for 7-15ea
Transfer tea set $5 it just reads fine China on it. So probably a Japan thing. But again it seems to sell. I do good with transferware pieces…
Blue depression glass candy $2 Nice one…I like this one!
Fenton Bud vase $1 Hand painted and signed…my friday find!
Green Fenton basketweve vase $1 Didn’t I just get one of these a few weeks ago?
Large Imperial luster rose bowl $3 Nice centerpiece bowl. Should make for a nice sale!

Picture #2

Collection of baseball cards $10 Easily my find of the day/weekend. all sorted by year 1959-1970. I looked through them some…I didn’t find the Mantel yet. But I did see a 59 Gibson. It was an older lady selling them. Said they belonged to her son but he wouldn’t take them. So she was tired of storing them! My gain! They came in a shoe box with rubber bands around them by year. Very classic kid collector style! Cool to see! All it needed was some old gum! I need to go buy a beckett…I’m not very good with players names!
Pile of Bruce Lee items $5 It some old pub. pics. And some magazines. All dated from the late 70’s…ebay??
Some old Cinefex magazines $1ea I like Star Trek…what can I say? I can’t remember how many (5?)  Someone paid $5 for one of them originally!

Picture #3

1942 Stediscope $5 In box…marked…cool instructions…Interesting WWII navy item…
50 year old cost guard rations $1 Still sealed in can…its marked 1958 (I think…I’m to lazy/tired to look it up).
Cool Search and Rescue plates $5 for the pair. I might try ebay for a high price…if not on the wall it goes!
Satellite signal meter $2 Nice metal one…much better then the cracked plastic one I currently use.
a Tivo $2…I took the gamble it has a lifetime…I’ll check tomorrow…
a Minolta camera $5 it looked like a nice one to me. Gamble item…
Mitchelle 307 reel. A lefty model…I have a few more mitchell reels around here…I need to gather them for a lot on ebay!

Picture #4

Empty tackle box $5 Its a nice metal Kennedy box…and I found out earlier this week I’m out of tackle box space for my collection. So either I stop collecting. Or a buy a few more boxes. You can see my choice :)
A very nice satellite dish $5 I could explain what it does. But really do you care? :) Lets just say its over 200 new. And I’ve been looking for something like it!

So all in all I did okay. I went through about 90 in gas (4.34 a gal on the mountain BTW). And the weather didn’t cooperate. But I still had a good time…it was an adventure! Better luck next year…

And The Rest!

I forgot one.

Picture #8

Sterling Bracelet, ear rings, and ring $5. The ring is marked .925 as is the bracelet. The ear rings are marked Mexico .925.

I could have added this to the other post. But I have bad luck with that. Including sometimes it likes to delete the entire post when I click edit. And that would be to much work. So now the work is on your finger…scroll down for the rest!

It almost goes without saying. But I was up and out of the house before sunrise. At my first estate sale before 6. Wait wait wait….they opened a few minutes early so I was in and out by 7. Not a whole lot at the sale. But I was able to score an absolutely gorgeous purple Victorian style pitcher for $5 (No buckaroo…you can’t have it! ;) Plus a few other nick nacks. The next sale was for 8am and I was there 7:30 it had just opened (I was about the 10th person in) but I was still able to score a few nice things there. Including the Fenton banana boat…it was priced at $5 and I saw 2 people walk right by it. So the Fenton gods were smiling on me today (what else is new huh? :) I got out of there and ran around to garage sales the rest of the morning. I quit today at about 11:30. It was getting hot and a lot of people were packing it up.

It was 66 when I left the house and its in the mid/upper 90’s now. Very bright and sunny. I was able to remember my camera today…with batteries…but the pictures are still all screwy.  I had to delete about 10 of them because they were so bad.  What can I say…I suck at photography. That and I’m trying to take the pictures as inconspicuous as possible. I doubt most of the sellers would enjoy me taking a picture of them so I can say “look those are the ones who sold me a $50 piece of Fenton for $5″ on the Internet!!

Not to many over priced things today. Most of what I picked up I came home with. So that’s always a good thing. $5 seemed to be my price of the day for items. But that’s okay. I got some nice items! I don’t mind paying a little bit more if the item is nice! However I wouldn’t mind paying 10cents for it either!

All in all a nice fun morning for me. I got some stuff for me. I got some stuff for resale. I got some pictures for you guys/gals. So everyone wins! Here is the run down

Picture #1

Fenton Silvercrest Banana Boat $5 Nice one…I got the cake plate a few weeks back…now I have the banana. All I need is the fruit bowl and I’ll have a set!
Absolutely gorgeous purple Victorian style pitcher for $5 Ground pontil. Nice quality piece. Very early Fenton look to it. But my gut tells me it might be phoenix/consolidated. Coin dot pattern turn of the century. Its so nice I might be forced to keep it. Or at least stick such a high price on it that if it sells I’ll be so happy I won’t care that it sold!

Picture #2

Another view of the pitcher…it deserves 2 pics in my opinion.

Picture #3

Collection of figurines 50cents each. I got all but 1 of these at the sale with the pitcher. A few are lefton…but most are unmarked. Its hard for “oldkeet” to pass up on a keet figurine. They should make for good flea market items.

Picture #4

Freightliner speedo $1 It looks brand new to me. I figured for $1 I’ll throw it on ebay and cross my fingers.
art deco style teapot and sugar $3 for the pair Cool look to them…to bad the creamer is MIA
50’s canister set $5 Cool set always a good selling item at the flea. Your retro kitchen is not complete until you have it!
Small Bauer bowl #36 $1 Bauer still sells!
Imperial candlewick bowl $1 Odd shape…interesting one I need to look up.
Pink Princess Depression glass Plate set $5 Nice set (6) of hocking glass in good condition. They had it taped up but I broke the tape to check the plates before I got them. Although in this case I could have never trust the seller telling you the condition.

Picture #5

American Bison Skull $20 this should make for a good seller. Who doesn’t need a bison in their game room?!
Native American rug $5 cool…from the same sale as the buffalo…

Picture #6

3 lighted tire signs they asked $5ea but I got the set for 10. I will need to keep the Michelin and the Dunlop. But I might sell the Uniroyal…maybe :)

Picture #7

Vintage 70’s chair $1 Its made by “art metal” Any help on this one would be great. It looks like a good flea market item…
Dept 56 Krispy kream stand $2 Maybe it sells…I knew the name and for a few bucks took the gamble.
Vintage green depression glass flower frog $1 Nice shape…these are always a fast seller…and I don’t know why…I forgot these were in the truck and I found them when I got the chair out. if your wondering why they are in this picture…

news and notes

I placed an order with showtime for a few items and also got a neat button thrown into the box. And I do heart Dexter. Its a great show. One of my top 3 along with Lost and Heroes (season 1). Now granted the show is not for everyone but I recommend you check it out! Or even better check out the books by Jeff Lindsay!

Now I’m still trying to decide what estate sale to hit Saturday morning. I see 2 ads in the paper I like…both at the same time…both about the same distance from my house (opposite directions). Maybe I should get out a coin and let fate decide??  I just hope I’ll remember my camera…I already charged the battery.

Also playing a little catch up here…

I did sell the sewing machine earlier this week. I got 225 for it. It was in such nice condition I probably could have done better on ebay (275 or so). But I got cash in hand and my shipping stars won’t get dinged.

I forgot to mention on my post about the flea market a few weeks ago. I did end up selling that little green Fenton vase. The one I almost threw away. I got $5 for it and it moves on to a loving home…a much better home then the one I almost gave it. So that’s good news.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

Mother’s day shopping was easy this year. All I had to do was drive down the street. I was on my way home from the market and there on the side of the road (a 4 lane road) was a box with a card on top. So I pulled over into the bank parking lot nearby…got out walked over. And boom…instant mothers day gift. Four Brand new pairs of socks in a Nordstroms box. All I have to do is swap out the card and I’m done shopping! I could keep the same card…but it says “love Cindy” and that just wouldn’t work! So happy Mother’s day Mom! Enjoy your socks!  Or in the case of poor Cindy’s mom…I hope your feet don’t get to cold!

Also pictured above is the Fenton vase from my where is the Fenton game yesterday. That ended up being way to easy…or if it was hard still did not last long. But upon further review I think I saw the problem. I shouldn’t have said that it was a vase. Because in all my pictures there are only 3 or 4 vases shown total. So that really narrowed down the choices. I’ll try to make it harder next time! I took the picture of the vase at that angle so everyone could see the original sticker on the bottom! Cool huh?

My finds and a special game!

Not to many ads in the paper this week. Well, I guess that’s a relative term. To me the 50 or so ads I saw is not to many. To some it might be a lot for this time of year…I think it was Mother’s Day that was keeping some people in? But isn’t that what any good child does? Blame his mom for everything! I also noticed a lot fewer sales out today. But that did not keep me from putting together another fine day. Complete with Fenton!

It was in the 50’s this am and is creeping up to about 73 now that the sun is out. I was out of the house right before 6am and went to a neighborhood sale. No good looking estate sale ads in the paper this week. It neighborhood sale was a bust…but right by it I found an unadvertised estate sale that was very good. I picked up the singer and the Northwood there. After that I wondered from garage sale to garage sales picking up a few things here and there. It was a slow pick for me today until about 11:30 when things dried up.

Like normal on a holiday/special weekend I saw a lot of sales with new items trying to sell gifts. I didn’t see and many junk sales this week as in past weeks. That was nice. I did remember to bring my camera…but the batter is dead (at least I hope its the battery…it won’t turn on). So more iPhone pictures. But I’m getting better with the iphone pics. Apparently after it makes the little camera click and the touchscreen does the shutter thing…you need to count “1 alligator 2 alligator” before you move the lens. That’s why I was getting so many pictures of the ground. I thought once it made noise it was done…of course I didn’t figure that out until 10 or so…so the pictures are still scarce. I also included a picture that came out so bad/weird…it looks like some of the new fangled art you would see in a gallery!

I saw a lot of overpriced items today.  But the ones that takes the came was a chipped piece of belleek for $75…third green mark…shamrocks.  that person was INSANE if they think it was woth half of that…

I got 2 pieces of Fenton this week. One is shown in my “finds” pictures. One is shown only in the pictures of the garage sales. I drove by and the sale was on the other side of the street…but I could see the vase. And I just knew it was Fenton. On my walk up to the sale I took a picture. I got the vase for $1 (it still has the original sticker on it!) So lets play a game…kinda like where is waldo? Only…can you spot the Fenton??? Now you only get a picture to look at…but it at least 15-20ft closer to the sale then I was when I saw the Fenton :) Have fun…if you make a guess list: picture number, location, and vase color…only one guess each! I’ll post a pic of the vase later this week so you can see it…only hints…its a fenton vase…and its in the first 9 pictures…it really stands out…to me!

flea market

It was another flea market day today. But I wasn’t really up to the task today. But I got a hold of some bad food last night…because I was really feeling bad after about 6pm. Right when I started to pack my truck. So I really didn’t pack much. I almost didn’t go to the show. I was up most of the night. But I was feeling better around 3:30 (yes am) so I decided to make a go of it. The picture was taken early on and as you can see my tables were only half full. I didn’t bring as much as I normally do. Maybe about 60%…I just wasn’t up to it. I felt better as the day went on only very tired. All told I ended up making 602. Not a bad day when you factor in that I just sat there like a bump on a log and didn’t have much to sell…I’ve had worse days when I felt 100% and brought a full load.

Sorry for only one picture…I was going to snap a few more but someone brought something over to me to buy from me and I forgot. Notice I’m sitting in the picture…I didn’t feel like getting up…sorry ;)

my finds for 5.03.08

I was up and out of the house early again. But it was light outside…wow is it getting light early…I was still at my first sale a few minutes after 6. And there I sat…it was advertised for 8am and I really like the neighborhood it was in. So I wanted to be first in line. Plus with the price of gas I don’t mind sitting as much. I was first…but they sale was complete and utter chaos. It had a 2 car garage full of boxes…the house was packed…it easily makes my top ten list of risk your life sales…how I made it out alive in one piece with no missing fingers is beyond me. They opened a little after 7am when there was about 8 of us there. I didn’t leave until after 8am. There was probably 40 people there when I left…and it was insane…things were flying…breaking…stealing…boxes fell on people…it was getting ugly. I saw someone walk up grab a clock walk back and drive off. I tried to tell the sellers but it was to late then. You fought your way into the garage and grabbed what you could got a price, bought it, LOCKED it in your car and went back for more. The prices I might add were very good. The poor sellers tried to keep everyone at bay for a while…but they lost control and made no attempt to regain it. They sorta just stood there looking at the spectacle in awe. They were in from Kansas and very underprepaired. I missed some things…someone got a nice Fenton vase right next to me. Just to many people and to many boxes for me to be everyplace at once! I used to putting up with the rude and pushy people at sales. So when it really bothers me you know how bad it is.

After I left that sale I went around to some garage sales and still found a few more nice items. Sorry I forgot my camera today. Me and that iPhone camera just don’t get along. I tried…by most of the pictures I took were of the sky, the sidewalk, my feet, my finger, or are just a blur. So here are the 3 or 4 that came out okay along with some that did not. Speaking of my finds here is the rundown with prices.

Picture #1

Carnival glass punch bowl Indiana Harvest $5 In original box. It does violate my no punch bowl rule. But it should sell…honest!
EAPG blue tumbler 25cents pattern unknown to me…for now…I’ll look it up later.
3 pieces of fenton hobnail $1.50 I missed a nice Fenton vase…it was a newer carnival glass one. Now it would only sell for 20 or so…but I still hate to see even one get away!
Box of boyscout pins 50cents None of it is really old…but for 50cents…
Box full of union Pacific RR gloves $1 Some are used…sone not…and for $1 you can’t go wrong. I asked if he was selling any more railroad items and he brought out some number RR nails from the late 20’s/early 30’s and wanted $5 for all the nails…about 25 of them…bottom right of my picture…hard to see they blend with the countertop.

Picture #2

Westmoreland Doric Banana boat $3 I find a couple of these a year. There was a time I could get $50 for them in under an hour at the flea. Now I’m lucky with 20 at the end of the day…
Vintage pottery pitcher $2? Anyone got a guess on the maker…has 12 stamped on the bottom. I’m not sure who made it…so if you do…help!
EARLY Bauer mixing bowl $3? It was $5 for both the bauer and the pitcher…I forget which one was marked 2 and which was 3. But the bauer is a nice one. Early years. I shouldn’t have a problem getting 60 out of it.
2 carnival glass imperial luster rose bowls $4 Its the 50’s imperial…but I can still make 10 or so off each one.
Craftsman socket set $3 I got it from the estate sale…you can see how dusty everything was in the garage…unless it was inside a box (then it was wrapped and very clean. I got it when it was still early so they wanted to keep order and put a price sticker on the inside. I’m not a big fan of craftsman…but it should sell for something.
Vintage Oak Skateboard $1 I was happy to grab this at the estate sale. It made up for missing the fenton. Nice golden oak…it should sell nice!

Picture #3

My annalee army $5 It was all in a box at the estate sale. They said $5 for the box so I took it…a lot of them still has the tags attached!

Picture #4

7 Fostoria American wines $3 its the older 3 part mold so its not a reproduction. So they should sell. They also threw in an American vase.
Newer? Transferware plate $1 It was only a buck…and people seem to buy it at the flea…
Stangl ashtray 25cents I’m not sure why I got this…it will never sell…
Westmoreland Handpainted milk glass bowl $1 I like this…nice piece of milk glass!
2 spode bowls $1 I have a lot of spode around here I put out at Christmas…
Derby glass 25cents Its from 1988…but if I find a few more it should sell in a lot…thanks to someone on the board for the tip. I can’t remember and the board is down so I can’t give you credit by name…sorry!
Black Americana wall plaque $1 Nice old piece…
50’s art glass decanter 25cents. It has the stopper…but it looks like someone used it as a vase…I think its sick (hard water stains). But for 25 cents I’ll soak it and find out…plus the stopper is still good!

Picture #5

Bundy clarinet $5 It should make for a good sale!
Flynn DVD collection $2 its still sealed so I got it…I’ll check ebay later to see if that was a good idea…
2 fishing reels $5 One of them is a nice older one from about 1910…
box of stamps $1 Not a bad price…I think I will sell them…
Tackle box full of paint…I don’t remember what I paid for this…but it was under $5 I’m sure…ebay item probably.
Old wooden roll of copper formvar $1 Not a bad price…not sure what to do with it…but for $1…it has to be at least 2lbs worth!
3 boxes full of old 78’s $5 Good show item…wish they still had the victrola to go with it!
