Dark and cloudy is today’s theme. That includes the weather and my brain today. And let me say you don’t want to be home and in bed a bit after 1:30 when you have to be up at 5. I had my fantasy baseball draft last night and it ran a bit late…very late. I don’t know anything about baseball. I don’t watch it, listen to it, or read about it. But somehow I got lucky enough to win last years league…but of course we don’t play for money because that would be gambling and Illegal :) My winning a fantasy baseball league is like someone winning a bet because the logo on the teams jersey was looked cute…

So I was moving slow all morning…even after 4 shots of espresso. I’m left wondering if I walked by anything good and didn’t notice it. I sure hope not. But I was able to find some okay stuff this morning. Weather is okay…70 out now…but very cloudy all morning. I took some pictures of a few sales…my pictures are worse then normal today. I blame it on the lack of sleep…but its probably just my inability to do anything artsy…

A few of the pictures are sales I didn’t even get out of the truck at…I saw a ton of sales. But most of them were pure junk. I went to an estate sale first thing. It was open right about 6:20. I got most of the glass and the mixer there (sorry I forgot the camera in the truck…no pics of it). Then it was around to garage sales for the rest. I saw a lot of very overpriced items today. Like the modern end table priced at 275. Nothing really special for me today. I rank it as somewhat slow finds wise also. But at lest I found some Fenton!!

Saturday Finds

13.jpg

Picture #1

Intellivision with games and plastic tub $5 I know its marked 10 but it was about 11 when I found it so when I offered 5 they took it…and even threw in the plastic tub! It has 8 or so games and it looks like all the parts. So I’ll have to play with it and test it before I sell it…darn :)

2 ATM 69 Chevelle Models $1 They look complete and untouched…at least to me…But I didn’t inspect it very closly…

Old Glass Float $10 I tend to have good luck with these…they seem to pick me up about $75 without much of a problem!

23.jpg

Picture #2

Hamilton Beach Mixer $5 It works! I had a few of these a while back (a year?) and was able to sell them pretty quick in the 80 range. I hope the market for them is still strong!
Mixed lot of trains $10 Lionel and K-Line They are newer but I shouldn’t have to much of a problem selling them…

33.jpg

Picture #3 (you ever notice how I lately I always seem to have 3 pics…no more no less?…odd…)

Green Fenton Hobnail Candy Dish $1 It was the second thing I found today…it was marked 1.50…But I talked them down that extra 50 cents ;)
Carnival glass fluted candy $2 It has the shape of a Fenton piece…but I’m not 100 sure of the maker….either way it should be a good seller.
Red Wing Bob White Quail $1 Its signed red wing…although not that that means much anymore…
Pink Adam grill plate 50cents Adam depression glass is always nice to find for 50cents
black americana cookie jar $1 Its newer…but for a buch its worth grabbing and taking ot the flea market…
Art Glass vase 50cents I think its a case…it could be a tumbler? But its mouth blown, signed, and dated…its dated 1987 and it looks like “Jan Lush”  Interesting piece…

Chocolate!

wen.jpg

I try to limit myself to one order of chocolate per month. Otherwise it would be just about the only thing I ate. And health implications aside I’d go broke very quickly! I have pretty expensive taste in chocolate. I can’t settle for Heresy’s or anything they sell in the normal super market.  It just doesn’t work for me anymore.

The rabbit is solid 72% dark. And just like a good coffee its smooth and delicious! A lot of people say they don’t like dark chocolate because it has to much of a bite. But that’s only true if have cheap dark (or the cocoa is over 85%). I try to limit my intake to a chunk a day…they said on TV a piece of dark chocolate a day can be good for you! I’m holding the TV to its word!

I also got a few truffles (I can’t stop myself…its bananas foster!) and some espresso beans. The chocolate espresso beans are like all the basic food groups rolled up into bite size chunks! Caffeine, Cocoa, and Sugar! As you can see in the pictures one of the truffles had a dent in it…I was about to eat it when I remembered to snap a picture first! I got these from wenchocolates.com. I highly recommend the Troika and bananas foster truffles!

That was a short Spring…

clock.jpg

Hard to believe its spring…
It was well over 90 today…and when I got home from a family BBQ today it was 85 inside the house! But I am happy to report the A/C is working and now has it knocked down a few degrees. It was just dark when I took that picture and you can see it was still 80 out.

Time to put the top down on the olds and cruise over to sonic for a peanut butter blast!

Our spring was how long…3 days?

How many times I have I said it? And I don’t mean the great weather. It was great however…low 50’s when I got up and its 77 out now. It will be in the low 80’s today. But one of those mornings when you don’t expect to find much. You know the day…only a few ads in the paper…no estate sales to go to…its a holiday weekend. You get up a few minutes later then normal…because there is really no where to get to (well before dawn anyway). You wonder out of the house and at your second sale your greeted with a splendid sight. A set of milk glass…Fenton and Westmoreland. You ask the price and are told they want $20 for all of it. And that sets the tone for the day…sometimes when you least expect it!

At about the 4th sale of he day I picked up another piece of Fenton (the shoe). And they mention they have another piece of older glass if your interested. But they would want $5 for it. I hold on while they dig it out and bingo…more Fenton cranberry! A bit later I walk to another sale and find some Marx trains. I was pleasantly surprised all morning…good group of items…good prices…and a lot of sales! Things did dry up for me about 8:30. And then I couldn’t find anything until I gave up ay about 11. But with what I already had in the truck I can’t complain. So do you have that kind of day also?? Or is it only me?? :)

Overall a very nice day. Here are some pictures of some sales. With some of the “green stuff” everyone in the colder climates isn’t used to seeing!! Sorry for some of the pictures. You have to remember I’m taking these while I’m driving or walking up to the sale. I’m not taking time to really aim…sorry…but seconds count!

Saturday Finds

12.jpg

Picture #1 (sorry for the bad picture)

2 Murano Glass clowns $5 I normally try to avoid murano glass. It just doesn’t sell anymore. But the clowns and animal figures are an exception. There not going to make you rich…but its something.

Fenton Amberina shoe 50cents Its hard to sell now…to common the shoes are. But well…its Fenton…I have zero impulse control!

Candlewick mint dish 50cents I’ve been having good lucky with candlewick lately…am I the only one? Has it come back in style?? For a while I was passing up some of the smaller pieces like this…but not anymore. I mean I don’t get much for it but $5 is $5…

Crackle glass syrup/creamer 50cents Another item that always seems to go away.

Poppytrail platter 50cents I’m not sure why I got this…It will never sell…

Fenton Cranberry opalescent mayo set $5 Easy 100…I couldn’t get the $5 out fast enough…

22.jpg

Picture #2

Closeup of the mayo set…it deserves it

32.jpg

Picture #3

Tons of milk glass $20 Fenton hobnail bowls. Westmoreland Candlesticks in the doric pattern. Westmoreland english hobnail candy. Fenton hobnail candlesticks. Talk about a way to make your morning good really quick. I couldn’t find a chipped piece in the lot. They need to be cleaned…but I can handle that!

41.jpg

Picture #4

Marx Marlines train $5 It had its original box…or still does…all 6 pieces of it…to bad the box fell apart. It also came with the Marx (I think) train station and some track (not shown).

Box..err..tub?…err…I’m not sure what to call that. Bit its full of Lincoln style logs $1 It looked interesting…maybe it sells maybe not…

battle-star.jpg

Yesterday season 3 of Battlestar Galactica arrived in the mail. It was a pleasant surprise because I had preordered it and forgot about it. I know they probably sent me an email when it shipped. But I don’t pay attention to half of what’s in my email box.

Battlestar is a show I’ve skipped watching on TV and just wait for the DVD’s. Its not that I don’t like the show. Far from it…I’m 4 episodes in and its very good so far. But like a lot of shows I watch I just hate commercials that much! I’d rather wait for it to come on DVD and pay for the set. So I can watch it at my leisure and have a mini marathon (I hate waiting week to week). Then have to sit through commercials and watch it when its on. There is a few shows I watch that I can’t wait for them to come on DVD. Like Lost…you’d have to restrain me in another room and cut the power to the house and I’d still go crazy trying to watch it at 9pm Thursday…I’d probably chew my own arm off so I could get to the old battery powered TV. But there are only a few shows like that for me (Heroes and Dexter are the others).

Speaking of TV how happy are you the writers strike is over?? I think the writers deserve every penny they get (and more) because they are the real genius behind the show. But that still drug on way to long. I hate most reality TV…flame me now…but I can’t stand American Idol or Big Brother. I just can’t bring myself to care about them in the least! In my opinion The Amazing Race is about the only reality show worth watching. But anyway some sitcoms have returned to the air and dramas will soon follow…its a good thing too…I’ll be out of DVD’s soon!

Fenton!

I was in the area of Buena Park today. So I had to make a stop off and pay homage to the Fenton at Knotts Berry Farm. They are one of the largest Fenton retailers there is. So its always a fun stop to make when I’m in the area. It takes me about 30 minutes to look at all the pieces and laugh to myself at some of the sky high prices. I like to call it a research stop. You know see what new things are out and what to keep an eye out for! Plus I like to stop and stare at the burmese pieces…the epergne in particular (but its $445). It was all 25% off today…so a few pieces were tempting…but I still did not come home with anything. But one of these day when I win 200million on the lottery one of the 20 bedrooms in my house will be the “Fenton Room” and the walls will look like this… They said sometime over the summer Fenton should come back for another singing!

junk1.jpg

Due to the time change I was able to get up later today. I was up and out of the house while it was still dark. But I was able to get 30 minutes of extra sleep. I was at my first estate sale on time and was able to get into the garage where it was all setup (see picture #1) and pull out a lot of nice things there (see pic 2). Thankfully I bring a pocket flashlight with me. No lights in the garage so I was about the only person who could see the items to grab. It really came in handy on the silver. I was able to sort through and find the sterling when the others had to grab a piece and go outside and back. They also had a set of desert rose for 150. They might have taken 100. I didn’t ask. It had some serving pieces…but I can’t sell the one I have…and I didn’t want to know if they would have taken less. I tried to talk them out of the see sign on the garage (see picture). I mean really tried…but no dice. Not even I can win them all :)

After that It was around to garage sales all morning. I was able to score some nice stuff at the garage sales also. All in all a very nice day.

The weather was nice. upper 40’s when I got up and its in the mid 60’s out now. Party cloudy and Breezy. It all makes for a very nice morning out on the hunt. I quit today right around 12noon. I saw a lot of sales…probably around 35 or so. Some of them junk some of them not. I took a few pictures of some of the sales. I also had a few extra pictures of sales…but somehow that cannon camera is corrupting the files after I take the picture. I got it about 3 week ago at a sale for $5…I guess you get what you pay for…it corrupted a few good one too…so now your all left with the junky pictures! Maybe I’ll bring the Sony next week.

Lots of Pretty Pretty Glass…

11.jpg

If your reading this and you didn’t see an entry before it about how I found all this…your moving faster then me! Just hang on a few minutes while I type it out!!

Vintage thing $1 I think its a grease gun…I’m 90% sure. Looks cool at any rate!
Vintage Marilyn Monroe (censored) $2 Its printed on fiber board…I think that’s what its called…my guess its 70’s vintage. But I’m not positive…
Lot of sterling silver $5 Including some Whiting. Its a good set…the shakers aren’t weighted nor do they have the cheap glass insert! I’ll pay $1 or less all day for sterling.
2 boxes of recipe cards 50cents Not bad its all the hand written cards…
Lot of fishing items FREE! I asked about fishing and he went into the garage and came back with the box and said here take it. I offered him $5…but he declined…nothing great…there is a baby wiggle fish but the condition isnt the best.
Lot of Disney pins $10 Got this from a former park employee. The lot included a hard to find club 33 door pin. You open the door and it shows Walt on the inside! I’m very happy to find the door pin. I’ve been eyeing them on ebay (they come up about once every 2 months) but I haven’t wanted to pay the 125+ they sell for. So this was a great find…it goes right into my collection.

21.jpg

Indiana milk glass hen on nest $1 Great flea market item…
vintage Royal Bayreuth dog figurine hair pin? 50cents I’m not sure what this is…no hole on the bottom so you can’t fill it with salt or pepper. So it leaves me to think hairpin or hatpin. Maybe a toothpick but they aren’t shaped like that. Anyone got a guess?
Vintage cobalt cup/reamer It came with the Shirley temple items (see next picture) I think its a repo…pretty sure…
Vintage Jadeite Bubble Bowl $1 Just like silver…when jadeite is $1 grab it…
Vintage McKee Jadeite bowl $1 Its nice old jadeite…I like the McKee!
Hull? Apple cookie jar $1 I think its hull…it looks like their work…
3 Pieces of Fenton $1ea I was starting to get worried there for a few weeks. But there it is 3 pieces of handpainted Fenton all with stickers still attached! And I got it first thing…its nice to get it out of the way quick!

31.jpg

Green depression glass Console Set $5 Nice set…it has the gold overlay on the edge. I shouldn’t have a problem selling it.
Westmoreland Blue Dove on nest $3 Its very very dirty…but once it cleans up it should make for a very good seller!!
Shirley Temple Cobalt set $5 This is still a solid seller. Its not as hot as it once was…but it goes away quick if your price is right!

Here is a cloesup on the 33 pin…
